Humor me for a minute…if you woke up tomorrow and there was no such thing as social media anymore, would your police recruiting even feel it? 😳

If the answer is no, you’ve got a massive problem. 🫸 🫷

Let me show you why you should be using social media for your police recruiting efforts and how it actually works when it’s done right...keep reading! 👀

Hey everyone, it’s Tom Sye your Police Marketing FTO, and this week, we’re talking about social media and why it’s so important to your police recruiting efforts, even if you feel like you’ve tried it before and it didn’t work. 👌

Look, it’s 2026 and social media is one of the primary ways people decide on their future places of employment. 💯

So, with that being said, social media is no longer something you can do on the side anymore. It’s an essential support mechanism to police recruiting…and if you want to recruit effectively in this day and age, you’ve got to be using it and using it well.  Agencies that already understand this are the ones who are consistently winning with applicants. 🏆️

Let’s make you one of those agencies by understanding the reasons why your agency should have a major presence on social media…

1. Social media is the recruiting table of 2026 and beyond

Listen, most applicants, especially Gen Z ones, don’t wake up one day, decide to be a police officer and run off to your website to apply. 🤷‍♂️

Nope.  They hit social media.  They watch…they scroll…they observe…and they form opinions long before they ever show any interest in your agency, or any agency for that matter. 🤳

That means, before applicants see you at a job fair (like applicants go to those anymore), well before they’re on a ride-along with you, and certainly before one of your recruiters even has a chance to talk to them, you could be reaching them on social media.  🧲

The simple fact is if you’re not showing up there, or if you’re barely showing up, you’re going to be invisible during the most important part of a potential applicant’s decision-making process. 👻

So, when you think of how valuable a recruiting table is to you…equate that now to social media. 💪

2. Social media builds familiarity with your agency

Again, just like I alluded to in point one, people aren’t going to make big life decisions in a vacuum. They want to feel comfortable, like they understand what they’re walking into, and that your agency is the kind of place for people like them. 👯

Social media is the bridge to that comfort level.  If done correctly, it allows applicants to get familiar with your people, your culture, and your expectations without any hint of pressure whatsoever. 🤙

This means that when someone finally reaches out or even applies, they don’t feel like they’re starting from zero. They’ve bought into you already and feel comfortable knowing who you are and what your agency is all about. 🥰

That familiarity lowers anxiety tenfold, builds a trust level you wouldn’t even imagine, and keeps people engaged with your agency…making all the other ones suddenly disappear in their eyes. 🫠

3. Social media lets you control your police recruiting narrative.

Here’s the bottom line…if you don’t tell your story, someone else will. And believe you me, more often than not, the one they tell is not going to help you. ❌️

Social media is the great equalizer here.  It gives you the ability to show what working for your agency actually looks like, instead of letting assumptions or news reports of things that have nothing to do with you…fill in the gaps for people. 📺️

When you have a presence on social media…you get to show applicants who you are… normal people doing normal police work.  You get to explain your hiring process in a way that takes away confusion and leaves no doubts.  And, most importantly, you get an opportunity to answer questions before they ever get asked. That clarity alone will separate you from most agencies competing for the same applicants and help you win. 🚀

Now, here’s where a lot of agencies get stuck...

Like you, after reading this newsletter, they now understand why social media matters, but they don’t feel confident using it. They’ve never been on social media, so they have no clue what it is they’re looking at.  They don’t know what anything does, where anything is at, or even how to get started. 😕

Well, I’ve solved that problem for you.  🙌
