Ready to ramp up your recruiting efforts and finally start attracting police officer applicants to your agency without having to spend a ton of money to do it?  I’ve got the three things every police recruiting unit should be doing themselves in 2025...keep reading! 👀

Hey everyone, it’s Tom Sye your Police Marketing FTO, and this week, I’m here to get you moving!  That’s right…look it’s nearly the end of May already and those old, antiquated recruiting methods you’ve been using, like going to job fairs and out of state recruiting trips still aren’t working, right? 😔

Now…before you go turning to some outside company that wants to do things for you…let me remind you of this...

What they’re going to do for you…like performance related coaching sessions to get your recruiters in a better state of mind, developing the most high tech recruiting video and website package you’ve ever seen, or using their proprietary applicant generation system to get you so many applicants you’re not even gonna believe it, all of these things…every last one of them…you can do yourself for little to no cost.  You don’t need them.  You just need someone to show you the way. 🤯

So, to get you started, here are the three things every police recruiting unit should be doing for themselves in 2025...

1.  Social Media

The fact that this is number one on my list should come as no surprise to you because if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times…social media is the recruiting table of 2025 and beyond. 💫

Look, I’m not going to bore you with numbers or a lot of statistics here…let me just simplify it for you really quick…your target audience, you know, the ones you are hoping to attract to your agency to become Police Officer Recruits…they’re on social media…like, all the time…you should be too. 💯

And this goes way beyond ‘oh, we have a Facebook page’.  You need to be everywhere your applicants are.  Need some help figuring out where that is?  My Social Media Rap Sheet breaks down eight of today’s hottest social media platforms and will let you know if they’ll work for your agency or not.  Download it right now for free at forcopstraining.com/smrs

2.  Branding

If an image of a hot iron and a steer just came to mind…we’ve got a lot of work to do…but never fear, you know I’ve got you covered. 🙌

Listen, every single thing that you do, from advertisements, to social media posts, to information on your website, what's in the signature line of your email, how your booth looks at the recruiting event, the way you answer your phone, how you interact with applicants, the contacts your employees have with citizens, all of it...that is your brand. 😎

And despite what people tell you about money, benefits, location, family legacy, retirement, sense of purpose, service to the community, and anything else you can think of, your brand, and more importantly, how it makes someone feel, is the deciding factor between them choosing to work for your agency or not. ✅

To best utilize your brand to help fill your police vacanciesthe goal is simple: show applicants…that people like them, work for you! 👯

Wanna know how to do that?  My Marketing ‘For Cops’ Newsletter is loaded with tips, strategies, and suggestions for building your brand and recruiting like it’s 2025!  Sign up for free by visiting forcopstraining.com/blog and I’ll send it to you every Thursday morning.

3.  Selling

Yep…you heard me correctly, I said selling

If you want to start converting more applicants into new hires, you’re going to have to start selling and closing deals.  And that means…better messaging in your recruiting materials and social media captions, a softer approach to testing and your background process, understanding and patience with your younger applicants who simply don’t have the experience or know how to get things done yet, and a calm, helping hand to assist applicants in navigating the whole thing. 🫶

Notice, nowhere in there did I say lower standards, look the other way on things, or hire anybody and everybody.  You’re still looking for high quality applicants...you just have to sell them on why your agency is awesome…just like any good salesperson. 👌

Need more tips on how to do that?  Hit the notifications button on this account right here and I’ll deliver the knowledge you need in my social media posts every single day. 📅

Ladies and gentlemen, recruiting in 2025 isn’t hard…it’s just different!  But you can do this.  Stop dumping endless dollars on outside companies who have no real interest in filling your vacancies…if you have no vacancies, they don’t exist!  Get it?  Take control of your police recruiting and start doing things yourself.  💪
