Tired of pitching the same old same old ‘come see if you have what it takes’, ‘help protect your community’, or ‘join our team’ angles in all of your social media posts? Yeah, your audience is tired of it too.  Fortunately, you know I’ve got a solution…here are the biggest things you should be selling in your police recruiting posts right now...keep reading! 👀

Hey everyone, it’s Tom Sye your Police Marketing FTO, and this week, we’re talking about exactly what you should be selling to your potential Police Officer Applicants right now, with everything going on, if you want to start seeing more of them applying to your agency. 📣

Now…before I go any further, what I’m about to talk about is not meant to be political in any way.  Sure, I’ll be discussing current political events, but this video is not a ‘hey, what side of the issues are you on’, let’s get into an argument kind of thing.  In fact, I don’t care what side of the issues you’re on…I just want to see you win with recruiting, whichever side it may be.  Fair enough?  OK… 👍

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know there are a lot of topics dominating the news headlines lately, such as tariffs, spending cuts, restructuring of this and that, an up and down stock market, and a host of new policies from our new government.  It’s leading to some panic, confusion, and uncertainty for a lot of people, especially when it comes to their future. 😩

In times like this, this is where you…as a Police Recruiter or Marketer, have to really be in touch with what’s going on with your potential audience, and this sounds terrible, but take advantage of it!  Look, a career with your agency isn’t a pyramid scheme so you shouldn’t feel bad about shifting your messaging to match that of what people are feeling. 🤷‍♂️

So, with that being said, here are five topics you should be hammering in all of your police recruitment job postings on social media like right nowtoday, before things calm down and your window closes...

1.  Stability

Whether justified or not, there’s a lot of fear and uncertainty about the future right now with everything that’s going on.  If only you had a career to offer that was the pillar of ‘yeah, this jobs going to be around a long time and ain’t going anywhere’, right? 🤔

Ditch the ‘come see if you have what it takes’ and start promoting the longevity and stability that a career with your agency provides.   Trust me, people will take notice.  😎

2.  Retirement

Along the same lines, 401K’s are taking a beating in the stock market right now and people are freaking out.  This is the perfect time to talk about the guaranteed retirement that comes with a career in law enforcement and how they, in most cases, don’t depend on the market doing well or not. 📈

Explain the different tiers or levels of retirements, if applicable, but focus on the most secure structure of them all, ala a defined benefit plan, if you can. 💪

3.  Pay

You should be starting to sense a theme here in these suggestions and there’s good reason for that.  People are really worried about their money right now.  Some people may be freshly out of work, working for really low wages, or just looking to finally make more money by having a career and not a job.💲

For the most part, your average Police Officer salary far exceeds that of what any normal twenty-something year old can walk into.  Use that to your advantage. ✌️

Careful though: you don’t want this aspect to dominate your messaging because you’ll end up with a bunch of people who are only looking for money and couldn’t care less about helping people.  It’s a balance. 🤑

4.  Benefits

This is another huge area to concentrate on right now as people are worrying about cuts to government programs and assistance.  Many people in your target age range are hearing about this, wondering how it will affect them in the future, and then start thinking about the typical jobs they have that carry some basically medical coverage and nothing else. 👎

From vacation time to bonus incentives, uniform allowances, life insurance policies, paid holidays, education incentives, special assignment perks, like a take home car, and anything else that your agency offers that no one in the private sector does, now is the time to start highlighting them… a bunch. ✨

5.  Satisfaction

If you’re not talking about how fulfilled people will be when working for your agency, you’re missing out on a gigantic opportunity to hit human beings right in the feels and connect with their inner most desires.  Remember, most people view themselves as ‘normal’ people and normal people don’t care about being elite, joining the best, setting the standard or any other archaic slogan we’ve come up with over the years to make the job look awesome. 🙄

You know what’s really awesome to people?  Helping out others in their community.  Being an example to others who grew up just like them that shows people they can do something good with their life too.  Having the ability to, I don’t know, actually be happy at work, crazy concept I know, or the possibilities, like real possibilities, of not being stuck doing one thing forever and being able to promote, advance, or try different things in their career. 💯

That’s what’s going to get people to your door and the time is right now…to start promoting it. 🤩
