You want to know how to quickly build an audience for that police recruting social media account of yours? Yeah, I thought so…here are three sure fire ways to start building an audience full of loyal and dedicated followers...keep reading! 👀
Hey everyone, it’s Tom Sye your Police Marketing FTO, and if you are running a police agency social media account, I know one of the biggest things on your mind is ‘how do I get more followers’…it can seem like such a daunting task especially if you are just starting out with social media. 😩
Look, there are companies out there that are going to try and sell you on paying money for followers or introduce you to all of these systems that they’ve created to help boost your follower count. They promise hundreds and even thousands of followers really quickly and I won’t lie to you…a lot of the time…they actually deliver. 🤷♂️
But…and this part is super important…just like I’ve taught you with applicants…there’s a massive difference between having followers and having the right followers. 💯
So, if you’re looking to build an audience of dedicated and loyal followers who will interact with your posts, share them on their timelines, and most importantly either apply for a job themselves or tell others to do so, use these three quick and cost-free ways to build your social media audience…
1. Post stuff
If this seems overly simple…that’s because it is! But this is an area a lot of agencies struggle with because they either don’t post enough or rely on posting the same thing over and over again. Social media users are savvier than ever and are no longer enthralled by simply seeing a post from a police agency…you gotta entertain them a little bit. 🕺💃
This doesn’t mean you need to jump on every internet trend, get super creative with everything you do…or even have the best-looking graphics, videos, or photos. It simply means you need to post different things about your department and its job openings regularly. 🕐
When you do this, people keep coming back because there’s variety and they like what they see. And when people like what they see…they follow you. 👍
2. Interact with other social media posts
This is another redonkulously easy way to boost your follower count that literally no one in law enforcement, for whatever reason, ever does. Listen…the first part of the term social media is social…so be social. 🙌
Now…this may be very hard some of you who have that super serious, type A personality switch broken off in the on position…but set that aside and simply be a normal person for 10 or 15 minutes…I promise…you’ll still be a cop afterwards. 😂
Like some posts, comment on some others and watch your follower count start to build. 📈
3. Send a department wide email about your police recruiting page(s)
Some of your biggest fans on social media will be the very people already working for you so you should definitely be taking advantage of that and getting them to your page…especially if it’s brand new. 👋
Simply send out a department wide email to everyone at your agency, sworn, civilian, volunteers, interns…all off them…letting people know your page exists and that you’d really appreciate a follow to help with recruiting efforts. 📨
This is a really easy way to gain some quick followers who will be more than happy to help spread the good word. 😃
Ok…there you have it. Give these three ideas a try and watch your social media followers grow. 🚀
